Ensenada Chat

Ensenada sits on Todos Santos bay, about 110 km south of the US border, and #ensenada is ChatZona's room for the port and its metro area — El Sauzal, Chapultepec, Maneadero, Punta Banda — plus the Valle de Guadalupe wine country.

Ensenada is known as Mexico's wine capital: the Valle de Guadalupe, 37 km from the city and inside its municipality, is the best-known wine area of Baja California, the state that makes most of the country's wine. In 2015 it became the first Mexican city in UNESCO's Creative Cities Network in the gastronomy category, and its port was certified that year as Mexico's first green port; in 2025 it handled more than 1.3 million cruise passengers.

From 1882 to 1915 Ensenada was the seat of government for the northern part of the peninsula, until it moved to Mexicali. In 1853 the filibuster William Walker landed here and proclaimed a republic of Sonora and Baja California, until local ranchers led by Antonio Meléndrez drove him out. Mexico's National Astronomical Observatory stands in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir, inside the municipality.
