Jobs and CVs Chat

Lucy enters for the first time and already in the first message she feels awkward: "Isn't that a pretty direct question?". "How much do they pay you?" someone replied with a joking tone, and the room exploded in laughter. Lucy had logged in from home, sitting on the couch with her laptop on her lap. She'd decided to join after hours of fruitless searching online for decent work in her field. When she saw how many people were connected (about a dozen, with nicknames as creative as "Puppy" or "Soccer Player"), she thought maybe she'd find the help she needed here.

The room fills with debates about salaries, but it's not just that: how many years of experience does it take to have "status" in the job market? Someone asked about the future of freelance work, and another shared their experience working in Berlin. At that moment, someone threw out a question that sparked a passionate discussion: "Can you ask for an interview if your CV isn't complete?" The answer was a flood of personal experiences, advice, and jokes. Sometimes the tone got heated and some people exchanged opinions with a sharp tongue, but always with a dose of humor.

What makes the Jobs and CVs Chat room unique is its casual and direct tone. People don't beat around the bush or play the victim. Someone shared a story about how they negotiated a higher salary after an interview, and the response was applause and advice to follow their example. They also make fun of "the office" and interviews that seem like "another world". In the room, the help you get is honest and generous: someone asks a question, and someone else responds with a similar experience. And, of course, there are no rivalries between regulars: everything stays in jokes and ribbing.

Connect without registering and with any nickname you want. Phone or PC, doesn't matter. ChatZona has been running on real IRC since 2007 and it's still an authentic and warm space. In the Jobs and CVs Chat room, it's not unusual to see strangers sharing experiences and helping each other out. It'd be weird if nobody answered you in the first two minutes. So why wait? Log in and see what happens.
