Two Catalan rooms coexist on this server with different histories: #cataluña, where most of the people are, and #Catalunya, smaller and full of long-time regulars. This page joins both at once, so it does not matter which one the person you are looking for is in.

Here you write in Catalan without anyone switching on you, which is the difference from the Barcelona or provincial rooms, where Castilian creeps in by default. Any register goes — eastern, western, Valencian or Balearic — and it also crosses with the Barcelona room for anything about the city.
