Start with what this room is: ChatZona is a Spanish-language site, so #brasil runs in Spanish and portuñol, not Portuguese. It is for Brazilians who handle Spanish, for Spanish speakers living in Brazil — São Paulo holds a very large Bolivian community, plus Argentines and Colombians; Venezuelans in Brazil are concentrated up in Roraima instead — and for border people, where portuñol is not a joke but the ordinary way of speaking.

Brazil borders nearly all of South America, and that is where this room gets its character: border conversation. Foz do Iguaçu with Ciudad del Este and Puerto Iguazú, or Santana do Livramento pressed against Rivera in Uruguay, are places people cross daily and where both languages coexist without translation. The reference clock is Brasília, UTC−3, and Brazil has not used daylight saving since 2019 — same hour as Argentina and Uruguay, four to five hours behind Spain.
