Benavent handles the Spanish romantic comedy genre with craft and genuine warmth for her characters. Margot and David are believable in their mutual awkwardness, and the humour is light without being silly. This is not literature that demands more than it gives, but it gives exactly what it promises: an enjoyable read, some emotion and characters whose company feels worth keeping. The Spanish romance author with the most readers, and looking at this, it is easy to see why.
