✍️ ChatZona's review
McEwan built a novel about guilt and redemption through writing with surgical precision. The first section, with young Briony misreading what she cannot understand, is exceptional. The final revelation about the nature of the text we have just read is one of the most elegant metafictional turns in contemporary fiction. The war section may feel slightly mechanical, but the whole is one of the best English novels of recent decades.
