Cometierra

Reyes fuses magical realism with the raw violence of the Buenos Aires suburbs. Cometierra is a young woman who literally eats earth and through it sees what happened to disappeared women: a metaphor for the search for justice that works as poetic image and as accusation. The prose is intense and direct, the world she portrays brutal but never gratuitous. A short novel with a moral density that gives it the weight of something much longer.
